The capital of Slovenia is Ljubljana. Slovenia has a high-income developed economy which enjoys the highest GDP per capita ($25,266 in 2007) of the newly joined EU countries, or around 86% of the EU average. The country's relatively high rate of inflation declined to 2.3% by 2006 and is now comparable to the average in the European Union. Overall, the country is on a sound economic footing. It was the first new member of the EU to adopt the euro as the country's only currency on 1 January 2007. Moreover, Slovenia will also be the first new member state to hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2008.
