It also shares a maritime border with Denmark and Sweden. The Poles voted to join the European Union in a referendum in June 2003 becoming a full member on May 1, 2004. Between 2007 and 2010, the government plans to float twenty public companies on the Polish stock market, including parts of the coal industry. As many as 100,000 jobs will be created over the next few years as companies such as LG, Phillips, Siemens, Volvo and Hewlett-Packard invest hundreds of millions of pounds in Poland. Poland also has a large number of private farms within its agricultural sector, with the potential to become a leading producer of food in the European Union.
