Athens is the capital city whilst Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklion, Volos and Larissa are some of the country's other major cities. Greece has a capitalist economy that produced a GDP of $251.7 billion in 2006. Greece ranks 24th in the 2006 HDI (Human Development Index). The principal economic activities include the tourism and shipping industries, banking & finance, manufacturing, construction and telecommunications.
