Arabic Language Courses at LSI Language School in Central London
Modern Arabic is classified as a macro language with 27 sub-languages. These sub-languages, or dialects of Arabic, sometimes differ enough to be mutually incomprehensible. Modern Standard Arabic derives from Classical Arabic, which has been a literary language and the liturgical language of Islam since the 7th century. It is the official language of all Arabic countries and is the only form of Arabic taught in schools at all levels.
Arabic is the 5th most widely spoken language in the world. It is spoken by approximately 326 million people composed from the population of Arab countries, but excluding Arab minorities in other countries and bilingual speakers.
Standard Arabic is either the sole official language or co-official language of the following countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Chad, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, the Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Western Sahara (SADR), Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen and is also a recognised language in Mali, Senegal, and Somalia. International organizations such as the United Nations, the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Conference and the African Union also communicate in Arabic.
Resulting from the need of the West to improve communications with the Arab nations, Arabic has become a very important language to learn.
